“It takes a lot of time and effort. You need the patience, skill, and the knowledge.” Marcello O was as precise as a well-aimed drill when asked to describe the semester-long project that he and his fellow Middle School design students completed at the International School of Beijing (ISB) over the second half of last academic year.
For this annual unit in one of ISB’s well-equipped design labs, students produce increasingly complex machines communicating about global issues like equality and sustainability. It’s an example of a program at ISB that incorporates different academic disciplines and challenges students to learn from both their teachers and each other. There were eureka moments throughout the semester as students made breakthroughs and leaps in their learning, while working towards final products they could be proud of.
A new group of Middle School students can look forward to taking on this project in 2024-2025, benefiting from ISB’s high-quality teaching, facilities, and strong relationships among the class. Click the video link below for a look at this challenging and joyful learning.
The challenging and joyful learning experienced by these design students is one of three main Strategic Focus Areas for ISB. This news article is part of a series looking at aspects of ISB that are examples of the three Focus Areas. To find out more, click here.
