It’s Book Week at the International School of Beijing (ISB), with bookworms of all ages enjoying a host of activities to celebrate and support literacy.

Under ISB’s Strategic Focus Areas, providing challenging and joyful learning is the school’s first priority. While this applies to all academic disciplines, faculty leaders are paying particular attention to the school’s literacy program, recognizing that reading and writing are a foundation for students to achieve their potential in core courses. This focus on literacy includes bringing in visiting experts, like consultant Lyn Stone and author and performer Baba the Storyteller.

Book Week culminates in the Book Character Costume Parade. With an assortment of Hermiones, Waldos, and Monkey Kings appearing on campus, here’s a look how some of the key figures in literacy at ISB are ensuring the school’s teaching in this area is worthy of any bestseller list.

Challenging and joyful learning is one of three main Strategic Focus Areas for ISB. This video-news article is part of a series looking at aspects of ISB that are examples of the three Focus Areas. To find out more, click here.
