6 steps to becoming part of the ISB community

At ISB, our students benefit the most from their education when every member of the community works together to help improve the educational experience, and parents play an integral role in this process. The best way for interested parents to accomplish this is by getting involved in a way that works for them.

Are you curious about enrolling your children in an international school? Find out more about the good reasons to choose an international school. We encourage all ISB families to be active with the school community because we believe parent participation significantly improves every student’s educational experience as well as that of everyone else in the community. Furthermore, studies show that greater family-school engagement increases positive outcomes across multiple areas of a child’s education, like improved concentration skills and social abilities.

Here are six simple ways to increase engagement with your child’s school community:

Volunteer with the PTA

At ISB, the Parent Teacher Association (PTA) is responsible for a number of valuable initiatives. With a dedicated mission to foster a sense of community, build school spirit, promote enthusiasm for learning, and encourage students to contribute positively to society, the PTA is a vital element of school community engagement.

All ISB parents and teachers are automatically members of the PTA, but level of participation is left to personal discretion.

The PTA assists the Admissions Office as volunteers during New Family Orientation at the beginning of each semester and is a perfect place for new families to reach out and get involved. It’s also one of the easiest ways for new families to connect and integrate into the ISB family.

Lend a hand at the library

ISB’s libraries are essential to the school community. These serene spaces provide students with a quiet, study-centric environment to help them focus.

The library benefits from the helping hands of volunteers who help keep our libraries organized for functionality and peaceful so all students can enjoy them.

Become a homeroom/grade-level parent

Becoming a homeroom or grade-level parent is an excellent way to get involved. These volunteers are integral to keeping parents informed about what’s going on. This role acts as a liaison between the PTA, teachers, and fellow parents in the homeroom or grade level.

These volunteer parents run the chat groups to help answer class-specific questions and support the school by re-sharing information from the school to parents, where required.

Join a committee

Joining a committee is an easy way to increase your involvement in your child’s school activities and have your voice heard. It’s also a great way to meet other parents with similar interests and passions.

Here’s a list of some committees you could join as a member of the ISB family:

  • Ad hoc Board of Trustees committee
  • Leadership recruitment
  • Strategic Planning
  • Accreditation
  • Food

The PTA is heavily involved in most of these committees already and can be a great place to start if you are interested in joining one.

Volunteer with co-curricular activities

At ISB, our community is filled with talented families who have much to give back.

Volunteering to support a co-curricular activity, be it athletics, performing arts, a club, or any manner of activity strengthens the ISB community and brings joy to the overall student experience at ISB.

Building strong relationships is important for our students’ futures, no matter what stage of their ISB journey they are currently in. ISB’s extensive alumni network carries this spirit of community involvement far into their future. Learn more about ISB’s alumni network here.

Run for election on the Board of Trustees

As a non-profit school, ISB’s Board of Trustees consists of 12 volunteer members who are responsible for developing and approving school policy, overseeing ISB's financial status, recruiting, supporting, and evaluating the Head of School, and guiding the strategic direction of the school. Members are elected by the school community and take part in hosting monthly meetings and open sessions to hear from the ISB community.

JOIN OUR COMMUNITY

At ISB, our vibrant school community is just one of the many aspects of our service that make us one of the best international schools in the region.

ISB is an extraordinary school, made so by a tradition of educational excellence spanning 40 years. Establishing, nurturing, and growing such an exceptional learning community has been and remains intentional; we work hard to build strong relationships so our learning is at its best.
