Talented Middle School (MS) students at the International School of Beijing (ISB) have been busy producing some cool radio plays, rap songs, videos, and memes.
ISB Media is a club that allows students to create a variety of media to entertain, inform, and provide commentary to the ISB community. It’s among a huge range of after-school and co-curricular activities offered by the school to give students as many opportunities as possible to discover their passions. ISB Media is coordinated by Lloyd Handy (pictured, foreground), who teaches English as an additional language (EAL) in the MS. With a background in DJing, Mr. Handy is one of many ISB staff using their additional talents to inspire students outside of the classroom.
Grade 8 EAL classes created live radio drama versions of the classic fairy tale Beauty and the Beast. It saw groups of students gather in character around a common microphone for a live take with background music. They studied sentence fluency leading up to the reading, a beautiful and beastly way of improving their English. Listen to the radio play and a few of ISB Media’s other productions below.
