The International School of Beijing (ISB) will hold its third Teacher Recruitment Fair on Saturday, December 12 as it continues a record of finding passionate, highly qualified international teachers for its students.

Hundreds of applicants attended ISB’s first two Teacher Recruitment Fairs held on campus in 2018 and 2019. This year’s event will again identify talent, showcase the school’s values, and give senior ISB staff an opportunity to hone their recruitment practices.

All international schools around the world will have to adapt their recruitment practices given the challenges thrown up by Covid-19. Pandemic restrictions make it difficult to travel internationally and for employers to secure work visas for new recruits.

As ISB is presently only able to welcome its students and current staff to campus, the 2020 fair will be held off campus, at a downtown Beijing venue. More than 50 teachers have so far applied to attend. ISB is looking for high-quality applicants who are already in China. The school will maintain its policy of only considering teachers with top qualifications.

ISB Human Resources Director Jenny Whitaker said, “We’re keeping up the momentum from previous ISB Teacher Recruitment Fairs as these events are an innovative means of us finding the best and the brightest leaders and facilitators for our students.

“This is a very different year! But we are maintaining ISB’s rigorously high standards in recruitment. We’re looking forward to meeting some excellent teachers on December 12, showing them what a warm and welcoming place ISB is, and securing the services of professionals who want to serve our students while further building their careers.”

Any teachers needing persuading about the value of coming to the fair can look to attendees’ experiences in 2018 and 2019. At the very first fair, an American already in Beijing teaching chemistry said she got a real sense of ISB’s values and met some inspiring people from the school.

“My first impression is that ISB is a very valued player in the international school community,” this applicant said. “My second impression is that everybody is so friendly! The staff are clearly very happy here and invested in their students and the subjects they teach.”
