ISB artists get their skates on for Winter Olympics exhibition

By Nick Yates, ISB Communications

Following the conclusion of the Summer Olympics in Tokyo, everyone is looking forward to the Winter Olympics in Beijing in 2022. Student artists at the International School of Beijing (ISB) have made their own contribution to the buildup by joining a competition that could see their work included in an official touring exhibition.

Preparing for the start of the 100-day countdown to the Beijing Winter Olympic Games, the Beijing government invited ISB students aged 4 to 18 to join peers from around the world in entering their artworks themed around the Games into the competition. The slideshow above features some of the ISB artists’ work.

The ISB Government Affairs Office received masterpieces from Early Years 4 to Grade 12 over two weeks. The subjects range from Olympic mascots to ice and snow sports to the Olympic spirit, in formats including watercolor, acrylic, oil painting, and computer design. Nearly 70 artworks from ISB students of 12 nationalities were selected and sent to the Exhibition Organizing Committee.

An opening ceremony and awards presentation for this International Youth Painting Exhibition will be held at the end of October. An exhibition of the art will then tour China from November 2021 to March 2022.

While Covid-19 has had a huge impact on populations and high-profile events including the Olympics, the Summer Games showed society’s resilience as athletes excelled in friendly competition and fans worldwide enjoyed watching the action. The recently announced official motto of the Beijing Winter Olympics is “Together for a Shared Future.”

As a major establishment in Beijing, ISB has been committed to community for over 40 years. The school believes in promoting social responsibility, so it was very exciting to see how enthusiastic students were about this competition and its message of building a better world.

A big thanks to all the students who took part!
